In most cases, sump pumps are installed underneath the floor. Pedestal sump pumps are installed partially above the floor and partially under the floor. They come in two pieces. The motor sits above the floor and connects to the sump pit with a hose. Pedestal sump pumps are easier to maintain since the motor is easily accessible. Typically installed after the facility is already built, upright pumps last longer and are less expensive than regular sump pumps.
